Well seeing how an erection is increased blood flow in the genital area and that’s what the drugs prevent from happening. It is possible that it could decrease libido and create a type of ED
It depends on the type of drugs your talking about. If you could perhaps describe the group of drugs your talking about (Diuretic, Alpha-Blockers, Beta-Blockers, ACE Inhibitors/Angiotensin Receptor Blockers, Calcium Channel Inhibitors, etc.) then we could give a more accurate answer.
Some of the above, such as Diuretics and Beta Blockers, can cause erectile and sexual problems, however their benefits greatly outweigh the side effects.
You know, I always wonder what people really mean by libido – loss of interest in sex? Medication for hypertension can lead to erectile dysfunction, and some people equate this with loss of libido. I think that is more a psychological connection than a physical one. It is also the case that testosterone levels fall as men get older, which is usually when they begin to take hypertension medication. I don’t think men have to lose interest in sex (loss of libido) with erectile dysfunction, but an inability to perform sure might put a damper on such things. By the way, blood pressure usually rises to get the penis erect, hence the connection. Loss of libido may result in erectile dysfunction, but erectile dysfunction, particularly from medical reasons, may not cause loss of libido.
